Originating from Johannesburg, Helmut J is known mostly for his versatile flowing journeys into ambient & deeper Tech House, and more so for his darker penchant for Minimal & Dub Techno. Helmut is now based in Cape Town where he has been drawing on his creative energy in the form of production.

In 2012 he was signed to Make-Believe (spearheading some exciting new event concepts in and around Cape Town) as well as local label Triplefire Music, with a few very well received releases thus far. Further experience and credit to his production skills arose in April 2012 when requested to produce two tracks at the Red Bull Studios in Cape Town on their request.

Recent venues and gigs include CTEMF 2013, Face the Music @ The Foundry, Rocking the Daisies 2012, Spy Deluxe, Thrum Room, Killer Robot, Fiction Fridays, Triplefire Label Nights, Make-Believe events, Substance & No Wheres Eve @ Chukkachurri, Kinky Disco, The Art of Hot (Sapphire, Camps Bay), Johnny D. SA tour, Excuse the Mess Christian Burkhardt SA Tour, Earthdance Cape Town, RBMA Trevor Jackson gig hosted @ the Assembly, Origin Festival, Organica, The Sideways Sessions and various other venues and residencies.

On the events side, Helmut J was the owner of the much respected Sideways Sessions in Johannesburg, which turned into a successful monthly evening at the former Kink Bar in Cape Town. At present, he is busy with a project called Thrum Room… Cape Town’s first Dub Techno focused concept night and podcast series.
