ERACAST006 curated by Helmut J & Ryan Sullivan, now available on Mixcloud.
Thrum Room founder Helmut J and resident Ryan Sullivan come together to display their love for dub techno by regularly showcasing this sound when they dj back to back. Helmut J’s personally curated Thrum Room podcast series is a highly respected brand, upholding the genre in Southern Africa.
The idea behind Thrum Room was conceived and executed in December 2012 by Helmut J & Robin Would who decided to make something corporeal of their love and passion for the dubbier side of House and Techno. Thus the Dub Techno concept night (Thrum Room) and podcast series (Thrumcast) was born.

“This is the third in the experimental series of releases which explore the dark and unusual side of the African imprint’s artists.
The Black Series Three sees Helmut J, one of Cape Town’s most active techno artists, displaying a piece of his early work. Helmut J originally produced Geist over five years back and when rediscovered on a dusty old hard-drive, had to be brought to life on Triplefire Music’s Black Series.”
When : 28/29/30 August 2015
Where : Wolfkop Camping Village, Citrusdal, Western Cape, South Africa
“It’s with great pleasure we present to you a showcase of one of Cape Town and indeed South Africa’s hardest working independent techno and deep house record labels. For the last five years Triplefire has been releasing a steady stream of local and international artists with a determined quality control – there is no fluff to speak of – garnering the institution respect from all four corners of the dance music universe. Founder Ryan Sullivan joins us for the first time, and the man behind the dub-techno technikon that is Thrum Room, Helmut J, returns to the same slot he played in January; opening things up with a bass-heavy breakfast on Sunday at 10am. ”
Catch myself alongside homeslice Ryan Sullivan on Sunday morning.
